The two at Kempton ran OK, The Absent Mare again better than her last run, Young Lou ran well for a long way, but not really getting down to it when the going getting a bit tough!
After all the recent travelling Southwell seemed like a short trip, and we were well on our way back down the A46, when a hiccup in the engine spelt trouble! We limped along to a slip road then had a very long sit in a dodgy place with a policeman behind us, until the cavalry arrived in the shape of 'Nick the breakdown man'. After a lot of fiddling he decided that we had to have a taxi home, so another wait whilst 'Bob the lorry taxi' arrived. We eventually arrived home at 11pm, with three wonderfully behaved horses, and three very tired bodies! The lorry arrived back at 2.30 am! An experience I hope not to repeat - and all caused by a wire off the solenoid!
Kempton team had an uneventful, and on time journey home!
Haydock & Warwick on Wednesday, four at Warwick, all running OK, but not covering themselves with glory! Toby, Charlie & I headed north and had a day to remember. Garrahalish - beautiful as ever winning the BTO for Toby, then winning the race for the Just4Fun partnership. Gary settled much better and jumped like a buck all the way, but looked booked for a place when the favourite fell three out, landing from the last we were still in second, but then suddenly Gary grew wings, and flew up the run in under a great drive from Charlie, getting up to win by a length and a half. Much cheering from the owners,as well as the home team - I think there were a few bookies and sofas getting the treatment up and down the country too. Could not be more pleased with Gary who will be a super chaser for next season.
Some serious tooting coming up Park Lane after an uneventful (thank goodness)journey home! A new experience for Charlie who was hoping no one saw him sitting in the front of the lorry!
Great to have Holly Rooney riding out again 6 months after breaking her leg Holly is very much getting back into the swing of things. Supposed to be walking and trotting only for a while, she was spotted have a canter yesterday and the big smile is definitely back.
Quite a few visitors this week, not least from the Just4fun gang, who have been to give Garrahlish several pats, and also Clare & Martin Spencer Herbert who came to do the same to Kitegen. Charlie in to ride out as always - he and I off to Ireland on Monday to see if we can find another star to join the team.
